How to care for your hair and keep it healthy, naturally

We often look for a miracle product. In reality, the habits repeated every week make the difference over time, especially on afro and coily hair. Caring for your hair naturally means respecting its nature: dry, fragile at each curve, and precious.

In short

Healthy hair rests on four pillars: a clean, comfortable scalp, moisturised and protected lengths, gentle handling (detangling, tension-free styles, little heat) and good general health (varied diet, sleep, stress management). Consistency matters more than the number of products.

This is cosmetic and hair-care advice. It does not replace the opinion of a doctor, dermatologist or pharmacist. Every head of hair is different and results vary from person to person.

Signs of healthy hair

Hair that feels soft, returns to its shape after stretching, a scalp without itching or patches, limited breakage when detangling, ends that are not too thin, and length that progresses over several months. Coily hair naturally reflects less light, so shine is not the only sign.

1. A clean, comfortable scalp

Hair grows from the scalp. Wash it regularly, rinse well, massage with your fingertips. An itchy, flaking or spotty scalp deserves attention: see our dry, itchy scalp guide.

2. Moisturised, protected lengths

Water moisturises, creams and oils seal. A mask on most wash days, moisture between washes, styles that protect the ends, satin at night.

3. Gentle handling

Detangle wet, conditioned hair, avoid styles that pull, limit heat and chemical treatments, leave breaks between protective styles. See detangling and protective styles.

4. Health from within

Hair reflects your general health. A varied diet with enough protein, restful sleep and stress management all count. Heavy shedding can reveal a deficiency or health issue: a check-up with your doctor can tell.
